Ned and Robert's Arguments About Targaryen Children
2 of the key arguments that Ned Stark and his best friend Robert Baratheon ever had revolved around the death of Targaryen children. When Ned is appointed Hand of the King and sees that the Small Council wishes to pursue Roberts plan to have Daenerys and her as-yet unborn child killed, he resigns his position as Hand, despite knowing full well the force of the fury he will kindle in Robert. But Ned is a man of honour, and cannot stand idly by whilst the Small Council push through an act that he finds abhorrent and cannot reconcile with his belief system. If we also consider that he is thinking of Jon here, who has Targaryen blood and a solid claim to the Iron Throne (assuming he has been legitimised), then his actions make perfect sense... This moment also echoes an incident that occurred during Roberts Rebellion at the Sack of Kings Landing. Robert and Ned had clashed bitterly after Tywin Lannister had orchestrated the murder of Rhaegar Targaryen's wife and children. Eddard thought the act to be dishonourable and unjustified, and even their guardian Jon Arryn had been unable to mediate a truce between them. They were reconciled only after Lyannas death.
Jon, Arya & Lyanna's Looks
Lyanna Stark is described by all who knew her as strikingly beautiful, with the dark hair and grey eyes that were said to be characteristic of the Starks. Ned refers to his boyish daughter Arya as being similar to Lyanna in appearance and personality. Perhaps meaningfully, during the books Jon is said to look most like Arya of all the Stark siblings.
