The intended plan was for the story arcs of Daenerys, the Lannisters and the Starks among others to culminate in one enormous battle against the white walkers and their army of the undead at the foot of the monstrous wall. Of course, there's still time for that to play out, but that plan will more than likely change due to other houses being thrown into the mix.
