Game Of Thrones: 9 Most Mind-Bending Character Transformations

9. The Hound

How He First Appears With a nickname like The Hound, you'd be forgiven for making a snap decision regarding the values and defining characteristics of Sandor Clegane. It doesn't help that his brother is The Mountain either; surely no man related to such a murderous giant could have any redeeming qualities. Listen to The Hound talk and your preconceptions are reconfirmed - this is a man who expresses regret for not raping enough women before he killed them. And yet, bubbling underneath all this is the suspicion of a better person. In Season 1 he saves Ser Loras from his brother, then reveals how he was tortured by his brother as a child - explaining some of his behaviour patterns. What He Becomes It is Arya Stark who brings about the biggest change in The Hound. At first, his reasons appear self-serving; he intends to take her to her mother and earn ransom money for his efforts, but as the two spend more time together, he responds to her single-mindedness. He is grumpy, yet accommodating, and it seems that he actually likes her more than she likes him. And by placing the two together, we see it is Arya who is truly ruthless and vengeful, not Sandor.
