Game Of Thrones Finale: Idiotic Remake FINALLY Shot Down

HBO never entertained the idea. Obviously.

You were never going to get a new final season of Game Of Thrones, no matter how many online petitions you signed, how many clips of the cast you took out of context or how many times you angrily tweet about how disappointed you are that the show didn't do what you wanted. Because, crucially, the show did what IT wanted. And those Emmy nominations suggest they did something right, too.

Anyway, regardless of how unlikely it always was, HBO have now come out and clarified that they never intended to pay attention to the petition, which should have been obvious.

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys has addressed the petition while on HBO’s TCA summer press tour event (via Variety):

"There are very, very few downsides to having a hugely popular show, but one I can think of is when you try to end it, many people have big opinions on how it should end. The petition shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for the show, but it wasn’t something that we seriously considered. I can’t imagine another network would, but who knows?”

The complaints about the final season - which will go down as one of the most vastly underrated of all time, even despite its faults - simply won't have an impact. The cast have defended the show-runners, HBO have defended the show-runners and while they didn't turn up at Comic Con that was probably more down to the likelihood of negative fan energy than any admission of guilt. Because it would have been a maelstrom.

Hopefully, the prequel spin-off can give fans more of a positive experience. And Bloys also confirmed that the prequel is on its way and wasn't affected by the negative backlash to the final season of the main show "at all":

“Shooting has wrapped. It looks really good. The cast was amazing. Jane [Goldman] and S.J. [Clarkson] are busy in the edit bay so I haven’t seen anything yet but we’re looking forward to it... The only status I have is we finished shooting the prequel in Belfast. I was very excited by the footage we saw and the cast. They’re editing now.”
