Game Of Thrones Prequel: 10 Legendary Characters We Hope To See

9. The Grey King

Night King First Man
HBO

The Grey King is the legendary king who was named for his grey hair, beard, eyes, and later skin. The Iron Islands were revered for their creativity. He supposedly ruled the islands for 1,007 years. After his death, his alleged 100 sons fought for the right to rule the Iron Islands while the 16 that survived decided it'd me more prudent to just divide them amongst themselves. All of the great houses of the island come from the Grey King, including House Greyjoy, but with the exception of House Goodbrother.

What makes this legendary figure so, well legendary, is his fabled encounter with Nagga, the first sea dragon. Nagga was said to be able to feast on krakens and leviathans and drown entire islands just because he was feeling a little cranky. Legend says the Grey King slew this moist monster, built his great hall with its bones and heated it with Nagga's living fire.

Oh and those aforementioned 100 sons? They came from the Grey King's mermaid of a wife. Sounds like tons of fun for a television program.
