Game Of Thrones: Ranking EVERY Major Death Worst To Best

46. Brynden 'The Blackfish' Tully

Game Of Thrones Ned Stark
HBO

Death: Died fighting Lannister and Frey soldiers in the Siege of Riverrun.

The Blackfish (Clive Russell) was a cool, bad-ass character, and as one of the few remaining people from Catelyn's family he deserved a far better ending than this.

The Siege of Riverrun was a good story-line at first since it brought him, Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) and Walder Frey (David Bradley) back into the show after being absent for three years. It did also provide some solid scenes earlier on, but then it ended in a very anticlimactic manner (with Edmure persuading the Blackfish's soldiers to stand down) and the Blackfish was completely screwed over.

After helping Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) escape, he decided to go down fighting... and died off-screen. Seriously? That's it?!

At first it seemed like this could be a fake-out; after all, why would such a cool character not be shown dying otherwise? But no, this was for real. What a terrible waste.

When you hear about what happened in the books - Arya's Direwolf Nymeria and her pack led him to safety and, while his whereabouts are unknown, he is alive - it only becomes even more infuriating.
