No one will ever forget the Red Wedding, but can you remember the rest of Season 3 as well?
Season 3 of Game of Thrones was undoubtedly one of the best seasons. By splitting the third book of A Song of Ice and Fire into two separate seasons, the showrunners were able to adapt George R.R. Martin’s work with a closer attention to detail, and in some instances even managed to improve upon the source material.
The Red Wedding, for instance, was even more shocking than in the book. The performances, the music, and the general brutality of this scene elevated Martin’s original depiction to another level. The showrunners also made the wise decision of including Robb’s wife in the slaughter, which made the scene still more tragic.
Yet the Red Wedding can sometimes overshadow other aspects of an overall great season. Jon’s time with Ygritte and the Wildlings was one of the most entertaining aspects of his entire storyline, and Daenerys’ acquisition of the Unsullied was a key moment in her character arc.
Season 3 also contained some of the best dialogue between Tyrion and Bronn whilst the pair of them were in King’s Landing together. Indeed, their friendly yet competitive battles of wit were always amusing.
It’s not surprising, therefore, that Season 3 is held in such high esteem.
