Game Of Thrones Season 6: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Oathbreaker'

1. Enough For One Day

Game of Thrones Bran Young Ned Stark Tower of Joy
HBO

Gah, curse you Thrones!

I understand the decision to delay the next part of the Tower of Joy flashback - heck, part of me thinks it's definitely the right move, for a couple of reasons. The first is that it means this long-anticipated scene isn't over in just one episode, and it allows the fight to stand on its own, and then the all-important follow up can be its own thing as well. It also gives the show more time to get to a place where it makes a bit more narrative sense to reveal this information to Bran, given at the moment there's not really anything he could do with it.

But... the way the did it was such a bloody tease. There was the scream, Ned approaching the tower, Bran's shout (which Ned may or may not have heard), and then he's pulled out of it by the Three-Eyed Raven. As a cliffhanger it's undoubtedly an effective one, but waiting for this moment, it's horrible, and it means they really have to deliver when they do return to this moment, putting even more pressure on it. Here's hoping they can indeed pull it off, because the Tower of Joy was great, but it's only a job half-done.
