Game Of Thrones Season 6: 6 Characters Ian McShane Could Be Playing
2. Euron Greyjoy
There's a bit of an age difference - the casting call asked for someone in the 40s-50s - but that shouldn't get in the way too much, and Ian McShane is definitely more than capable of playing a totally badass pirate. The show seems to be cutting a lot of the Greyjoy plotline - the Kingsmoot and various brothers - and jumping straight in with Euron instead, which makes sense from a streamlining point of view, and from what we know of him he's certainly the best one to have appear in the series. He launches on attack on the Reach, and also sends his brother Victarion to Daenerys with a marriage proposal. If they're only doing one of these, my guess would be on the attack, because then we get to see the Crow's Eye in full-on swashbuckling action, and you can definitely see McShane, even at 72, pulling it off. He'd certainly be able to bring a lot of aggression and intensity to the role, and that's just through his eyes (or eye) and voice. The only sticking point with this one is that Euron seems to have more of a recurring role in season 6, and while McShane being important would fit, this may be a bigger part than what's suggested. It really depends how much of him they're showing, but there's no doubt he'd be great for it.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
