Game Of Thrones Season 7: 6 Signs A Dragon Will Die Very Soon
5. The Weight Of Names
Unfortunately for Dany, her decision to name her dragons after three important figures in her life - all dead - has all but put a Dead Meat label on all of them. That doesn't mean they'll all die (though it does seem unlikely that the Game Of Thrones will be decided by something as inelegant as dragons when it's about people), but she has rather unfortunately mapped out a means for each to die.
Rhaegal will follow his namesake and die in combat. Rhaegar was hit with a devastating blow by Robert Baratheon's warhammer, so it would make sense for Rhaegal to be similarly despatched (perhaps by a scorpion bolt?). Viserys meanwhile will die a golden death, as Dany's brother did - most likely at the hands of a golden Queen...
And Drogon will be fatally wounded in a battle with an almost equal rival (probably another dragon, if the theories are to be believed).
That's an idealised view, of course, and a simplistic one, but Dany chose those names because of who they represent, and she unfortunately also chose them because of WHAT they represent: death. In the Seven Kingdoms - as in Star Wars - everything rhymes; time is cyclical, doom comes in waves and as Littlefinger said "every eventuality is happening at the same time".
In other words, those three will live up to their names rather chillingly as an echo of the past.
