Game Of Thrones Season 7: 7 Things You Might've Missed In 'The Queen's Justice'
6. Jon Is His Father's Son
Ice met fire this week, but each of Jon's conversations with Daenerys also provided timely reminders that he is A Song of Ice and Fire, drawing parallels between himself and his father, Rhaegar Targaryen, and clearly drawing attention to him being a Targaryen.
Some of these were a little more overt, such as Daenerys stating she's the last Targaryen, and Jon admitting he's "not a Stark" just before a dragon swoops overhead, which show the writers are having some fun teasing the knowledge of Jon's parentage.
There were a couple of other references, though, which spoke more to what we've heard of Rhaegar, and just how Jon is like his real father. We hear Davos talk about how the people followed Jon into battle because they believed in him, much like Barristan Selmy says in Season 3's Walk of Punishment:
"When your brother Rhaegar led his army into battle at the Trident, men died for him because they believed in him, because they loved him..."
It's from Barristan the other comparison comes too. Daenerys says to Jon that people love doing what they're good at, to which Jon replies "I don't", referring to the way he's had to lead, fight, and kill. Back in Season 5, after Dany says Rhaegar was good at killing, Barristan told her:
"Rhaegar never liked killing. He loved singing."
