Game Of Thrones Season 7: 7 Things You Might've Missed In 'The Queen's Justice'

1. His Father Knew

Ned Stark has loomed large over Game of Thrones ever since his shocking death, and Season 7 has been particularly heavy on the references to the late Stark patriarch.

We had Sansa quote him in the trailer ("the lone wolf dies..."), Jon repeated his thoughts on the word 'but' in the Season 7 premiere, and last week had Jon grabbing Littlefinger by the throat like his father once did, showed us his tomb, and had all that talk about going south.

The seemingly compulsory Ned reference this week came courtesy of Daenerys, who says to Jon: "I wonder if your father knew his best friend sent assassins to murder a baby girl in her crib."

Although Jon doesn't know this, his father actually did try and talk Robert Baratheon out of killing Daenerys back in Season 1, refusing to sanction the assassination and even quitting as Hand of the King because of it. Varys was present for that, but not in the room when Dany says this to Jon - although after last week, he might not have spoken up anyway.

Daenerys wasn't a baby at this point, but Viserys did believe - and thus so too does Daenerys - that Robert had tried to have them killed numerous times as children. Of course, there's a reason beyond his own honour why Ned wouldn't want to order the hit. He keeps Jon Snow's identity a secret, presenting him as his own child, because he and Lyanna both feared that Robert would have the child killed if Robert learned the truth.
