9. They Did Nothing Til The Dragons Came

You could say that the wights were attacking the raiding party and seemingly trying to take back their kidnapped wight, but the inaction of their superiors says a lot more about intent.

Until Dany arrives, they are no more than amused spectators, despite knowing how dangerous Jon Snow is (the Night King ha snow witnessed him taking down two White Walkers himself with his Valyrian steel). Were there plan simply to stop the wight being taken, the Night King could quite easily have thrown his spear at Jon and two of the others, before he and his commanders stormed in to take out the rest. It's not like a small raiding party would be an issue for them.

It's only when she gets there that the Night King decides to play a part, which says a lot.
