Game Of Thrones Season 7: Everything We Know So Far
9. It Premieres In July, And Only Has Seven Episodes
July 16, 2017.
It is suddenly the most important day of the TV calendar, and if you've got your priorities straight you'll have already started clearing out your diary and ensuring nothing gets in its way (of course, if you're in the UK this applies to the following day, and it's probably acceptable to pull a sickie).
The later release date is because of the delayed production, and means that Thrones is going to dominate summer. Given those months are relatively clear anyway (last year's big hit, Stranger Things, isn't back until Halloween), it gives the show a clear path to dominate everyone's life. Not that it's struggled in April.
Also worth noting is the slightly depressing fact that it will only consist of seven episodes, which is painfully few compared to what we're used to. On the flip side, it's really great that David Benioff and Dan Weiss are telling the story the way they want/need to, even if it means fewer episodes, rather than stretching it to 10 for the sake of it or to make HBO more money.
Season 8 will be even shorter, the final season set to come in at just six episodes.
