8. Varys & Melisandre

A twofer here, because their inclusion on the list is for exactly the same reason. Neither of them have battle experience, so they’re unlikely to be slain in any of the epic battles that will come in Season 8. However, both have shown themselves to be treacherous, manipulative and cunning, so there’s always a chance of that catching up with them; just ask Littlefinger.

However, unlike Lord Baelish, neither Varys nor Melisandre are entirely self serving. True, both have switched sides at various times during the wars, but their own gain is never the only thing on their mind.

Varys serves the realm, always trying to think three steps ahead to ensure that ultimately, things work out for the best. Melisandre, on the other hand, serves the Lord Of Light, even if she mistakenly believed Stannis to be Azor Ahai for far too long.

As well as potentially being at risk of backstabbing, Melisandre has prophesied their fate already. She tells him ‘I have to die in this strange country, just like you...’, possibly foreshadowing that somehow, both will play a crucial role in Westeros’ fate, perhaps even becoming a martyr for it.
