Game Of Thrones Season 8: 8 Things We Already Know

1. The Spin-Offs

Like Breaking Bad before it, Game of Thrones is the next prestige drama to get a spin-off. The approach, however, is rather unique. Rather than having a series based around an existing character, a la Better Call Saul or Fraiser, this will instead be a prequel series set a fair amount of time before the show (i.e. not Robert's Rebellion). Furthermore, there's not just one idea in the works, but FIVE, with the hopes at least one will be good enough to make it to series.

However, while these are already been worked on, with writers locked-in to develop them - including George R.R. Martin himself, as he continues to do anything but write The Winds of Winter - they definitely won't be arriving until after Game of Thrones has wrapped up, so late 2019 or, more likely, 2020 at the earliest.

Creators Weiss and Benioff won't be involved either, meaning that while HBO are developing multiple prequels, the main show is still the focus, and its production won't be impacted by the series at all.

HBO are impressed the scripts for the spin-offs though, with HBO CEO Richard Plepler saying they're an "embarrassment of riches."
