Game Of Thrones Season 8 Breakdown: What 'A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms' REALLY Means

6. A Reminder Of The Hound's Importance

Game of Thrones The Hound Arya
HBO

He's had very little chance to shine so far, but The Hound got a great moment with Arya and Beric (still can't stop remembering him not getting a hug, to be honest) that served as a reminder that he actually has some grander meaning other than just being involved in the big battles because he's a Big Lad.

As if Arya asking him why he's there when he's never fought for anyone other than himself wasn't enough of a signpost to a Higher Purpose TM, the sudden appearance of Beric to start spouting about the Lord Of Light was an even bigger reiteration. Remember: The Hound was gifted a vision by the Lord Of Light, which marks him out as special. He has a purpose that definitely goes beyond him simply being a useful weapon and this scene - which was entirely unnecessary on the surface - was added in to remind us not to forget that for when the time comes.

Quite what that is is anyone's guess. Maybe the Lord Of Light just really wants to see Cleganebowl too?
