Game Of Thrones Season 8: Full Directors List And HUGE Budget Revealed

Season 8's Huge Budget

Bringing back Nutter and especially Sapochnik highlights just how big Season 8 is going to be, since they're both directors who've done huge episodes of the show, with Sapochnik in particular known for his action sequences (including one with White Walkers and wights).

That's further reflected in the increased budget for the show, with Variety reporting each episode will cost a whopping $15 million. That is, quite frankly, insane.

With fewer episodes, obviously HBO can afford to give each single instalment more money, but it's still a huge amount. For context, it's believed that Seasons 6 and 7 cost around $10m per episode, while way back in Season 1 it cost a measly $6m to make an hour of Thrones. The showrunners have spoken before about how they had to fight to get $8m for Blackwater, and now they've got almost double that for every Season 8 episode.

It's another indication of the ridiculous scale the final year will have, with production expected to run until around August 2018, and the six episodes rumoured to be feature length. And, with the army of the dead on the march (maybe including ice spiders as big as hounds) and dragons (both living and undead) to feature even more prominently, it's easy to see why they'd need that extra cash. Probably still no room for Ghost, though...

Are you happy with the directors for Season 8? Will the budget be put to good use? Share your thoughts down in the comments.
