Game Of Thrones Season 8 Premiere: 8 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Winterfell'

2. Yara's Rushed Rescue

Game of Thrones Theon Yara Winterfell
HBO

Theon's bid to rescue Yara at the end of Season 7 was noble, but also seemed a little misguided: Euron was secretly off to Essos, so quite how he was able to find her just after he'd docked at King's Landing is something of a mystery.

Nonetheless, we do get to see Theon rescue Yara, the same thing she tried to do for him years ago. He gets a headbutt for his troubles, which is a brilliant moment for the siblings, and then before you know it they're out of there, headed back to the Iron Islands, and then saying goodbye as Theon decides he has to go back to Winterfell.

Character wise this all makes sense, but what's jarring is that it all happens in the space of about a minute, if that. You get the clear sense that the writers need to get Theon to Winterfell, but also he has to rescue Yara first, and while the performances are as strong as ever, they do completely rush through what should've been a bigger moment.
