Game Of Thrones Spin-Off: Everything We Know About 'The Long Night'

1. It Starts Production Next Year, Will (Probably) Air In 2020

Game of Thrones is coming to an end next year, with the final season set to begin airing in April. HBO have already confirmed that the spin-off won't air in the same year, but we do know that production will be beginning on the pilot sooner rather than later.

It's expected to start shooting in around February/March, and if it's then picked up to series - which seems likely, even if the pilot is as disastrous as the first Game of Thrones one - that will begin full production around July. That would then time it quite nicely to pick up the old Game of Thrones slot in April 2020, although that's far from confirmed.

It'll also have a similar budget to its parent show, which is to be expected really. Speaking with THR, HBO's senior VP of drama, Francesca Orsi, said: "$50 million (per season) would never fly for what we are trying to do. We are going big."

Assuming it follows the 10-episode structure of Thrones, then, we can probably assume it's going to be somewhere in the region of $80-100m, because they're going to want to ensure this has the same epic scope as the main show.
