Not only the best character pairing on the show but one of the best TV bromances ever. Tyrion a dwarf noble man and Bronn a sell sword became the unlikeliest of friends and allies: quite why Bronn took on the role of Tyrion's champion was never quite clear (though he fared far better than Tyrion's latest). Perhaps it was the promise of wealth, whores and witty banter; Bronn has certainly had his fair share since he joined Tyrion's side. Tyrion certainly enjoyed the allegiance and power Bronn gave him and he was happy to reward him with the title of commander of the city watch while he himself was Hand of the King. By buying his once bodyguard such status, he ensured that he had someone he could rely on and they continued to share a kinship even after the Battle of Blackwater, where Bronn earned his Knighthood. But it wasn't just their camaraderie that made them a great pairing: it was the witty banter and their ability to say things exactly as they are. With all the scheming and manipulation in King's Landing, their bold, no-holds-barred chats were quite refreshing and thanks to the magic of Peter Dinklage and Jerome Flynn's performances they had one of the best dynamics in the show. Though sadly of course, all good things must come to an end and end it did when Ser Bronn took Cersei's bribe and married into nobility, securing his power base at the cost of Tyrion's. Given their backgrounds it was always inevitable but still heart breaking for them and us when the bromance finally fell apart. Even now we are seeing new alliances spring up as old ones fall apart. It will be interesting, not just from the perspective of a book reader, but an audience member, to see what new and interesting pairings will appear as we head into seasons five and six. Will Brienne and Podrick Payne rise up to become the new Tyrion and Bronn? Will Sansa and Littlefinger become the most dangerous power couple in Westeros? Will David Benioff and D.B. Weiss strike gold again with another magical pairing like Arya and Tywin? It will be fun finding out. Because for all the dragons, white walkers and shocking deaths, the show is really all about great characters and there is nothing better than seeing them spark off each other.
