Game Of Thrones: 10 Book Characters Who Are Far Better On-Screen

10. Margaery Tyrell

In the books, Margaery Tyrell is a mere side character who, while playing an important part, isn€™t explored very much. While we are allowed to guess as to what her motivations are, we are never given much to work with. It is hinted at that she is politically motivated and manipulative, especially from Cersei€™s point of view. She€™s in some scenes, says some lines, and that€™s really about it. In the show, her character is given so much more to do. She has entire scenes to herself, which gives the audience a much better idea as to what motivates her. We can see her manipulating Joffrey, knowingly undermining Cersei as she does it. She is portrayed as beautiful and cunning, yet soft and understanding. While she is just as power-hungry as many of the other characters, she goes about achieving power through a more subtle means. Unlike her husband to be, she seeks to inspire loyalty through love, not fear, which makes her quite likable. The character as a whole is elevated by a fantastic performance from Natalie Dormer, who brings these qualities to the forefront in a very nuanced and calculating way. The show took a relatively minor and mostly uninteresting character, and made her a major player who has quickly become a fan favorite.
