Game Of Thrones: 10 Characters We Didn't Want To Like

5. Khal Drogo

Objectively, Khal Drogo was fairly repulsive. His wedding night with Daenerys was upsetting. He was generally a smidge too enthusiastic about the whole rape/murder/enslave way of life. Technically, he did renege on his deal with Viserys. The love story that blossomed between him and his wife--once Daenerys managed to master the bedroom tricks to put an end to the sexual violence, that is--was actually fairly troubling. When he finally agreed to invade the Seven Kingdoms for her, he did not seem to intend to leave much intact for their son to rule over. Taking his physique out of the equation, audiences should have cringed whenever he came on screen. But we didn't. Jason Momoa completely embodied the role, spitting his lines in Dothraki as though the language had not in fact been invented for the purposes of a television show. He was terrifying and electric and a thoroughly convincing example of a man who somehow could rule over the thousands of savage horsemen who rode in his khalasar. And, yes, he fell in love with his wife and there was swooning. His love for her was far less troubling than hers for him, and to see the brutish khal refer to Daenerys as "moon of life" was unfortunately rather sweet. His return (along with their son) at the end of Season 2 in one of Dany's hallucinations set off the allergies of viewers all over the world. Objectively, Khal Drogo was not a good guy...but subjectively? His death was one of the saddest of all three seasons of Game of Thrones.

Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
