The daddy (or granddaddy) of them all. The single best character in all of Game of Thrones (there, I said it) is the most ruthless man in all of Westeros, the mastermind behind the Red Wedding and the patriarch of the hated Lannister family. Like Joffrey, Tywin Lannister is more of a background character in the book series, but the incredible Charles Dance brings him to life on screen in a way no fan of A Song of Ice and Fire could have imagined. Seriously, why isnt this man swimming in awards for this performance? Of course, hes the man behind the infamous Red Wedding (The Lannisters send their regards) but hes just too fantastic a character to hate. Charles Dances interactions with the equally brilliant Dame Dianna Rigg and Pedro Pascal are reason enough for us to love Tywin Lannister and now that his grandson has been graphically murdered, we hope that hell get the chance to shine even more in this season. Even his first appearance on screen (pictured above) featured him skinning a stag (symbolic, no?), before verbally demolishing his cocksure son cemented him as a force to be reckoned with. Long may Charles Dance finally be recognised as the legendary actor he is, and hopefully this year hell finally win that Golden Globe hes deserved all these years.
