According to Daenerys, she spent her childhood in Braavos at a house with a red door and a lemon tree outside. It is that particular tree which is the important clue here, as when Arya later travels there she makes a very specific remark to state that there are no trees in Braavos. So is it likely that in the time since Daenerys spent her childhood there that all the trees have vanished, or was Daenerys told that she was in Braavos when she was actually somewhere else? In Storm of Swords it is repeatedly said that lemon trees grow in Dorne does this mean its possible that Daenerys was actually brought up in Westeros? Additionally there's the fact that the secret marriage pact between Viserys Targaryen and Arianne Martell (which he wasnt even aware of himself) was signed by Oberyn Martell. The contradictory point is that the pact was witnessed by someone pertaining to be the Sealord of Braavos but instead of being signed there, maybe this simply shows that it was being financed by the Iron Bank? The purpose of this pact? House Martell wanted to overthrow King Robert and oust his Lannister backing and the Dornishmen continue to support the Targaryen cause with Oberyns eldest brother, Quentyn, travelling to Meereen in an effort to bring Daenerys to Westeros. So with all of these connections it seems that Dorne has always been the power behind the Targaryen resurgence.
