Before she became a liberator of slaves, Daenerys was the wife of Dothraki leader Khal Drogo. The marriage was arranged as a means for her brother, Viserys, to secure the Iron Throne. However, over the course of the season, it becomes clear that the greedy, arrogant elder sibling is bound for a sticky end. That time comes when Viserys threatens Daenerys and her unborn baby in a drunken rage. Drogo dispenses swift justice by giving Viserys the crown he so desires, in the form of a pot of molten gold on his head. It's the perfect comeuppance for a character who had been marked for death for quite some time. The death of Viserys is a horrifying moment and it really helps to illustrate Daenerys' growing commitment to Drogo and her son. It was perhaps the first moment where Game Of Thrones showed just how brutal it can be - it came as a real shock to see that degree of violence.
