Aegon Targaryen is the son of Rhaegar and was supposedly killed in the sack of King's Landing that claimed the life of his grandfather, mother, and sister. He is also Daenerys' nephew and actually has a better claim to the Iron Throne then she does, due to the fact that he was the son of the direct heir. Tyrion Lannister encounters Aegon after his escape from King's Landing and discovers his true identity. Aegon is on his way to meet up with his aunt Daenerys and marry her, but Tyrion points out that Dany is unlikely to want to become merely the consort of the king as opposed to the ruling queen of Westeros. Aegon soon decides against going to Daenerys and instead goes to Westeros with his own army of sellswords, who capture several cities in the Stormlands, the ancestral seat of the House Baratheon. After these successes, Aegon prepares to take Storm's End itself, and that is the last time we see him in Book 5. There is some controversy about Aegon, and some people think that he is not a true Targaryen and instead an impostor propped up by Varys to take the throne in a puppet regime.
