1. Khal Drogo
But this list is not just for shocking deaths, or clean-cut good guys that the show is now missing, but for the characters that I and many others miss the most, and the unadulterated badass that is Khal Drogo just about takes the top spot. It was very close between him and Ned but some of the moments from season one that I remember being the most awesome came from his scenes and they are difficult to top. Never again will we see him kill a guy by pouring molten gold all over his head, or rip another guy's gullet out with his bare hands. That kind of raw power is difficult to match and it may be a long time before another character has the same kind of awesome on screen presence that the Dothraki Khal had before his untimely death. The devastation it caused Daenaerys only made this death seem even worse, but it set her on the path to becoming a powerful conqueror herself, so perhaps it was not in vain. Khal Drogo therefore takes the top spot as the character I miss the most, by virtue of being a total badass with an awesome on screen presence that will be difficult to top for a very long time. But I think that with a show of this scale, with this many awesome characters, I'm bound to have missed someone or had a controversial opinion somewhere. Should Ned have taken the top spot?
