3. Daenerys Gets Raped
The Moment: Theres a great
infographic that (tastefully) visualises the number of boobs per episode throughout the first season of Game Of Thrones. Heavily skewed towards the first episode, its clear that while nudity is a big part of the world. To put it another way, Winter Is Coming was setting out to shock you. So it shouldn't be too unexpected that, after bizarrely placed body parts, bloody executions and, yes, a lot of breasts, the first night of Daenerys forced marriage has predictably forced sex.
Oh my.Why It's So Sickening: Were at an odd point in societal development where the act itself rightly remains a shocking and deplorable thing, yet lad culture still propagates much banter around rape. A good way this can tempered is when a popular media piece dramatises it in a way that portrays it based on the simple act itself. Getting off my soapbox and seguing away from a well worn subject, Daenerys first sex scene is incredibly important in setting up her character development, but at the time the main thing viewers took from it was shock; it was a step above everything else the show had given us to this point. Compared to some of Joffrey's sexual explorations its pretty tame, but in the moment it was horrific.
