Game Of Thrones: 17 Biggest 'What If' Moments

8. What If Stannis Had Brought Melisandre To The Battle Of The Blackwater?

Melisandre and StannisHBOStannis Baratheon has two vastly different advisers in his command, Ser Davos Seaworth and Melisandre of Asshai, and he often falters about which he should to listen to. Davos Seaworth is a man grounded in his views, he appreciates manpower and strategy when it comes to warfare, but in contrast Melisandre is a shadow-binder who follows the path of sorcery, mysticism and prophecy. When Stannis' fleet finally arrived off the coast of King's Landing, he chose to listen to Ser Davos, agreeing to not bring Melisandre to the battle, a decision which arguably cost him his first chance to sit on the Iron Throne. What if Stannis had brought Melisandre to the Battle of the Blackwater? Had Stannis ignored Davos' skepticisms and brought The Red Woman with him, she could have used her powers of foresight to predict the wildfire trap, allowing Stannis to retain most of his crew and fleet. Had the Baratheon fleet not taken such devastating losses, the battle would most likely have been won by Stannis, and Tyrell reinforcements This is just considering one aspect of the battle, Melisandre could have swayed the battle in other ways using her sorcery or magic. Davos didn't prove useful in the Battle of the Blackwater, but had Stannis listened to his priestess, he may have won the crown he covets so dearly.
