Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners And 5 Losers From 'Two Swords'

4. Ice

Not all entrants on the list have to be actual characters. One of this week's losers is a sword. Ice was Ned Stark's mammoth greatsword, the one he used to chop off the head of the Night's Watch deserter in the very first episode. It was later used to chop off his own head in front of the Sept of Baelor. Tywin Lannister has now had Ice melted down and remolded into two new swords, thus giving us the title of the episode. One he gives to Jaime in the next scene, and the other ***(very minor spoiler)*** will be a gift to Joffrey at his wedding celebrations. Ice has gone from being a monstrous and ancient Valyrian blade passed down generation-to-generation by proud Stark men and the old Kings of the North, to being used to execute its owner before being repurposed into two lesser swords, wielded by its owner's enemies; one a crippled oathbreaker; the other a nasty brat. For those who don't know what all the big fuss about Valyrian steel is, it's an magical alloy used in Old Valyrian smithies, forged using dragon fire. Since their hasn't been dragons around for a hundred and fifty years, there is no way to make it new, meaning there is a finite amount of proper Valyrian steal in the world. As such, it's incredibly valuable and rare. Reforming Valyrian steel would be like somehow re-using the paint of the Mona Lisa for your eighth grade art project. Quality materials: inferior product.
