Game Of Thrones: 7 Best Moments From 'The Lion And The Rose'

7. Oberyn Taunts Cersei

One of the best things about the royal wedding is that it brought a large portion of the cast together in one location for the first time. As a result, many characters interacted with each other that never had the chance previously. One of the best interactions came between the Lannisters and Martells. As Tywin and Cersei are walking and enjoying the festivities, Oberyn steps forward and formally introduces the two of them to his paramour Ellaria Sand. What follows is a passive aggressive back and forth, mostly between Oberyn and Cersei. As is typical of conversations in King€™s Landing, the two families trade insults back and forth within a veil of kindness and civility. Cersei clearly looks down upon Ellaria for being a bastard, and Oberyn responds by throwing the fact of her newly lost stature back at her face. Tywin keeps calm as usual, that is until Oberyn alludes to the rape and murder of Elia and her children; subtly threatening the Lannisters with the reminder that Myrcella is still in Dorne. Tywin doesn€™t look so cheerful after that. Part of what makes Oberyn such a charismatic character is that he doesn€™t care what people think or know about him. This is really refreshing in a place like King€™s Landing, where everyone hides behind false smiles while they scheme behind each other€™s backs. He has no qualms with threatening and insulting the Lannisters to their faces; in fact he takes pleasure in their knowledge of it. Honestly, the episode could have used more Oberyn, but the one major scene we got was a delight.
