Game Of Thrones: 7 Minor Changes That Irritated Book Readers

2. Littlefinger Kills Lysa Without A Backup Plan

And we're back to Littlefinger again. His murder of Lysa Arryn was equally awesome in book and show, but the follow up left a little to be desired. In the books Littlefingers' murder was witnessed by Sansa and Lysa's personal singer Marillion. Marillion is a minor-yet-loathsome character who first attempts to make a move on Sansa when he first meets her, and his refusal to take no for an answer pretty much screamed "Rapist!" Later, while Lysa is forcing Sansa to the edge of the Moon Door, Marillion stands in the background loudly playing his harp to cover up Sansa's screams. After Littlefinger arrives and pushes Lysa out the Moon Door, he blames the murder on Marillion. The singer is then locked up in the sky cells where Tyrion was briefly held back in Season One. Knowing Littlefinger will have influenced the jury, Marillion knows he will have no chance in a trial and jumps to his death. Sansa knows this wasn't exactly justice, but is secretly glad to see him dead. In a nutshell Littlefinger got away with murder and everyone believed his word over the singers. Because Littlefinger is a very intelligent and persuasive man. In the series however there is no singer/rapist, so Littlefinger simply passes Lysa's death off as a suicide. Unfortunately, the Lords of the Vale don't believe this for a second and call in Sansa to testify. This raises a series of questions - where is Littlefinger's influence and powers of persuasion? Why did he not think to immediately tell Sansa what to say after she witnessed him kill her aunt? Why would such a patient and calculating genius like Littlefinger who rarely dirties his own hands, commit an action as noticeable as murder without having a believable alibi? It's still great to see Sansa take the lead on her own and deliver the performance of a lifetime, but why would she need to improvise? How much time had passed since Lysa's murder? Did Littlefinger really not have time to speak to Sansa, before the jury showed up? Book Littlefinger does not make mistakes like this.
