Game Of Thrones: 7 Things We Learned From "The Lion And The Rose"
5. Tyrion Has Sent Shae Away
As suspected, the handmaiden who overheard Tyrion and Shaes argument last episode reported what she heard to Cersei. Varys - who has ears everywhere - informs Tyrion of Cerseis newfound knowledge and warns him that he wont be able to protect Shae once Tywin is informed. At the pre-wedding breakfast, Tyrion notices Cersei telling Tywin about Shae, and he realises he needs to take the appropriate steps to keep her safe. Later that day, he meets with Shae to tell her that hes secured passage for her to Pentos. Acting cold and aloof towards her, he states that while hes enjoyed their friendship, he can no longer have a relationship with her due to his marriage with Sansa. Of course, Shae sees right through this lie, but when she calls him on it, he angrily exclaims that because shes a whore, shes not fit to bear his children. Bronn then enters the room to escort her to her ship. Crying, she slaps the sellsword and rushes out. Bronn later informs Tyrion at the wedding that the ship left Kings Landing with her on it. Shae may have been with Tyrion simply for money at the beginning of their relationship, but as time passed it became more than just a simple business arrangement - the two of them fell in love. As she said to him, I am yours, and you are mine. However, like most things that happen in this world, it fell apart. From Tyrions wedding to Sansa, to Cersei and Tywins threats against him, he knew that he wouldnt be able to protect Shae for much longer. He loved her, and so he sent her away to keep her safe. Unfortunately this is a betrayal in Shaes eyes, as she repeatedly told him that she would face any danger that threatened to tear them apart. Its doubtful this is the last well see of Shae, but their relationship appears to be beyond repair.
