Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 3)

Episode 4 - And Now His Watch Is Ended

Lord Commander Mormont Death "And Now His Watch Is Ended" is a phrase traditionally spoken at the funeral of members of the Night's Watch, highlighting that their allegiance and loyalty to the night's watch must last until death. It is spoken in the episode by the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Jeor Mormont, as the closing of the eulogy at the funeral of Bannen, a member of the the Night's Watch who died as a result of the attack by the White Walkers. However, the reason for its use in the title is more likely due to the events succeeding this, when Jeor Mormont himself is killed by Rast, and the deaths of other members of the Night's Watch that follow due to the fight that breaks out from this split.
