Game Of Thrones: Season 4 Death Watch (The Lion And The Rose)

1. Themes Of The Week: Family

Mixed within all those power struggles, 'The Lion And The Rose' was also an episode all about family. Tyrion and Jaime sharing what was probably their last meal as equals together before the events of Joffrey's wedding and Tyrion helping his brother gain strength again after the loss of his hand. The Tyrell family was expanded further with the introduction of Margery's father Mace Tyrell, the Lord of Highgarden. Tommen too made an appearance, this time played by Dean-Charles Chapman (who looks more like he could be Jack Gleeson's brother than predecessor Callum Wharry), in a role that must surely expand now in the wake of his brother's death. Oberyn continued to lament the death of his sister, this time to Tywin, who in turn shared some time with his daughter Cersei. And for the first time we were introduced to the strained father-son dynamic that was Roose Bolton and Ramsay Snow. We saw many snippets of family life, many of which that will be changed in the wake of this episode and it will be fascinating to see where those dynamics go next. After the slow burner that was 'Two Swords', did the events of 'The Lion And The Rose' meet your expectations? Will you miss the tyrannical King Joffrey or are you glad that he has drawn his last breath? Please feel free to comment below and join me next week for the next Game Of Thrones season four 'Death Watch' as we look back at the themes and the highlights of episode three, 'Breaker of Chains'.
