Lorelai and Rory Gilmore don't have a typical mother and daughter relationship.

With Lorelai giving birth to Rory as a teenage. After experiencing problems with her own parents, Lorelai decided to try and cultivate a relationship that was more based on friendship. Thanks to their close nature and Rory being the kind of girl not to break rules, it was rare that Lorelai lost her temper with Rory.

Their relationship wasn't perfect. When Rory decided to take a step back from College and stole a boat with Logan, it caused a huge rift between mother and daughter. Barely speaking for months, Rory moved in with her grandparents and went along with all their wishes.

Over time the pair are able to put aside their argument and return to their old fun loving ways.
