Gotham: 10 BEST Changes To The Comics
8. Bruce Wayne's Journey
This may seem like a strange one to feature in the list after all, Bruce Wayne's transformation into Batman has already been heavily documented in the comics. Many fans lamented that the show would focus on these previous years, writing off Bruce Wayne as mere shadow compared to his alter ego. However, there is something fascinating about witnessing Bruce as a frightened thirteen year old boy and sticking with him to adulthood. Too often comics and adaptations fast forward through these years and focus on his martial arts training and travelling when he is already firmly in his twenties.
Gotham stays the course with Bruce, and presents a bumpier road to becoming the Caped Crusader. Bruce is at times both obstinate and completely unsure of himself, both filled with angst as well as optimism. The series is all too willing to depict a teenage boy leaning on the edge of darkness and, in doing so, illustrates that Bruce could have easily fallen down a different path.
It was a decision for Bruce to leave Gotham behind in search of the best training that the world has to offer, but Gotham asserts that no decision is made on a whim and Bruce's was built on a great mound of emotional turmoil.
