Some might accept Hoult's suggestion on the strength of his eye-brows alone, but he is far more than a physical gimmick. Yes, he clearly shares some genetical similarities in the brow department as both Jack Nicholson and Christian Slater, and that might represent a slight, pleasant similarity to past versions of the character (and success by proximity in the eyes of the fans) but he has proven himself a hugely capable actor. Since breaking out with the movie version of About A Boy, Hoult has taken a turn to the darker side of characters in the notoriously Skins, before Hollywood came calling with some seriously high-profile roles, including as Hank McCoy in the new X-Men franchise, and as Jennifer Lawrence's other half in actual real life. Again, he fits the profile of the character, even if he might be a little too buff at the minute in the wake of his X-Men preparation, with that intangible otherworldliness that has a lot to do with his piercing eyes and impressive bone structure. Clearly, the fact that Hoult is currently starring in a Marvel property for Fox somewhat stands in the way of him working on a DC property, but it didn't exactly hurt Chris Evans to play two different comic book characters, and James Marsden has played two important characters on either side of the DC/Marvel divide in his film work. And besides, fantasy casting allows for such impediments, particularly when the actor has such a good look for the role.
