Gotham: 15 Craziest Moments
5. Barbara Kills Her Parents (Season 1, Episode 21 - 'The Anvil Or The Hammer')
The Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia) didn't make it past the end of season one. His time on Gotham may have been relatively short, but he had a big impact on the trajectory of Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).
When Jim Gordon discovered Barbara's parents lying dead on the sofa in this episode, no one could've expected that Barbara herself was the killer. Richards played the scene with ambiguity and it worked perfectly. As Barbara edged into the room, her doe-eyed bewilderment could've been mistaken for grief - little did we know that Barbara clearly didn't want saving.
Gotham was a TV show that demonstrated that loyalty meant nothing - that you never really knew someone, no matter how much you thought you did. Barbara's actions in this scene demonstrated this and it really signified that no characters were safe from the city's corrupting forces.
The Ogre's manipulation of Barbara led her to become the tenacious character we would see in later seasons. So, whilst The Ogre may not be the most memorable Gotham villain, we can thank him for at least doing that.
