Gotham: 17 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

4. The Troubles Of Harvey Bullock

We're still making our minds up exactly what we thought about the Gotham pilot, but we know for sure that one aspect of it shined above all else: Donal Logue's wonderful portrayal of Detective Harvey Bullock, a perennial member of the Batman supporting cast and an interesting character who's never really gotten the chance to be fully fleshed out in the comic books. It looks like this might be his first chance to grab the spotlight, and we're not sure we're gonna like what we see. Already in the first episode it's clear that Bullock's fighting a fair few demons, and is mixed up in some nasty stuff, and we've a feeling that's just the tip if the iceberg. Bullock was introduced in the comics in much the same way, as a corrupt and purposefully negligent police officer. His motivations were less seemingly "noble" than his desire to keep the balance and peace on the streets as it is in Gotham; instead, he was under instruction of the equally dodgy Mayor to bring Gordon down, which he did be feigning clumsiness and spoiling everything the Commissioner tried to do. After accidentally giving Jim a heart attack he turns over a new leaf and stops being quite so bad, remaining loyal to the GCPD even if he does take the occasional bribe and beats someone a little too hard now and then. He's also vastly more overweight, so we guess Logue's version gets off lightly in some respects.
