Gotham: 19 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Totally Missed

2. ...And The Animated One

Many have drawn comparisons between the gothic, art deco architecture of the skyline in Gotham, and the similar production design of Tim Burton's two Batman films made in the late eighties/early nineties. In actuality the look of Gotham seems more inspired by Batman: The Animated Series, for many the high-water mark of Dark Knight media. The clash of modern and retro design in the buildings, outfits and cars are straight out of the animated series, which suggests Bruno Heller and company paid as close attention to the old cartoons for their research as they did the Gotham Central comic that serves as the most obvious influence on the show. Then there's the very direct reference to Batman: The Animated Series, which is so obscure and small even the most hardcore would notice it. In Gotham, the address of Wayne Manor is clearly stated as being 1007 Mountain Drive; that's the same address that appeared in a single episode of the cartoon, €œThe Demon's Quest€.
