Gotham Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen

1. The Fall Of Oswald Cobblepot

Whilst Jim Gordon was nominally the hero of the first season of Gotham, the true main character of the show was Oswald Cobblepot. The man who would be The Penguin began as a lowly flunky of gang boss Fish Mooney, was exiled, returned first as an enforcer for Sal Maroni and has now set himself up as the latest power in the criminal underworld. Oswald Cobblepot has the most complete character arc of anybody in Gotham, and it would behove the writers to carry on in a similar fashion for the second season. Seeing Cobblepot rise to the top of the criminal ranks in the city is obviously the next step, but he can't stay there. It wouldn't make sense. After all, at no point in Batman history has The Penguin been the most successful, powerful villain in Gotham City. So Cobblepot's journey should eventually be a tragedy; a violent rise, but accompanied by an equally tumultuous fall. Possibly at the hands of Jim Gordon, with the pair of them finally pitched head-to-head now Mooney's gone. In fact, it's a bit like a supervillain Breaking Bad. Brilliant but troubled, condemned to death, reinvents himself as an uber-villain. And €“ SPOILERS €“ Breaking Bad didn't have a happy ending.
