Grey's Anatomy: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
17. Season 18
In many ways, Grey's 18th season had an even bigger task than its 17th, because after contending with COVID, it now had to tackle its aftermath, including how the pandemic slowed the progress of the hospital's newest recruits to Meredith's brief flirtation with death.
And, in classic Grey's Anatomy fashion, the season proves a mixed bag, full of brilliant highs but plenty of undesirable lows. The highs come courtesy of Meredith, who kicks her Alzheimer's research into high gear, whilst Owen illegally supplies drugs to dying veterans and Webber's teaching methods are thrown into question.
These developments are frequently thrilling and well-executed - Owen, always a conflicted soul, has rarely been so compelling, elevating the season at every turn - but they are hindered at times by the repetitive nature of Amelia's love life and some intern melodrama we've seen a million times over.
With romance and returning faces (Derek's ex Addison, Meredith's new beau Nick), season 18 is full of emotional call-backs to past heartbreak, with just enough filler and meandering subplots to hold it back from greatness.
