As we're pretty close to the release date, a number of US critics have had the chance to see the feature-length pilot for Vinyl, and the reviews have, on the whole, been rather positive. There's a lot of hype behind the show, but it does sound as though it'll come close to living up to it. Den Of Geek called it "exciting and fun," and mentioned that although "there are a few anachronisms, it is pretty faithful to the times. It moves at a good pace, with four on the floor, its got a good beat and you just might dance to it." TVLine says that it faces a challenge in making more of the supporting cast, who are in the shadow of Cannavale's Finestra, but also remark that it "still provides satisfaction." The Hollywood Reporter's review, meanwhile, reads: "This propulsive new music industry series from HBO rocks hardest when focusing on the music itself, but excels overall thanks to a brilliant Bobby Cannavale performance."
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
