House Of Cards Review: 10 Spoiler-Free Reactions To Season 5

1. Claire = (M)VP

Robin Wright has been on the rise, in both House of Cards and outside of it, ever since the series began. Her movie career has taken off again, while Claire Underwood has become an increasingly important player, to the point where she was at least the equal of Spacey's Frank.

I'd argue she has been the more interesting of the duo to watch for some time already, but in Season 5 - with Claire on the ticket as VP - she truly comes into her own.

The Lady to Frank's Lord Macbeth, she proves herself the master of the game now. There's a warmth to Claire that makes her a more likeable character, both to viewers and the American public in the show, but that doesn't really reflect her cunning and conniving nature. Even Frank underestimates her, and it's fascinating to watch the power struggles between the pair even as they ostensibly work towards the same goals.

Wright's performance is showy, but there's a greater level of nuance there as well that makes Claire harder to predict and more intriguing to watch than Frank or anybody else on the show. She may or may not become Vice-President, but she's definitely the MVP.
