10. It Can Still Surprise You

House of Cards is a series where, amongst many other diabolical acts, we've seen the President shot and seriously injured, and that same man - and his Chief of Staff - commit murders of people who could be dangerous to them. The series has stretched politics into an absurdist drama - for both good and bad - and you might be forgiven for thinking we've seen it all. When you've done those things mentioned, how do you keep surprising people?

Credit, then, to the writers of Season 5, who manage to keep the twists coming, and genuinely surprising to boot. It's not always easy to predict what these characters will do next, which is an accomplishment given we've spent four years with them already. Even in its fifth season, it keeps the audience on its toes - and is still, at times, bats*it crazy too.

There are a number of scenes that leave you wondering just what the f**k is going on, some that seem utterly ludicrous and audacious, and others that will just shock you.
