Doug Stamper isn't typically the guy to give up his secrets, especially when they could harm Francis. And yet this season sees him unceasingly struggle with his past, including the murder of Rachel Posner and, pertinent to this, moving Frank up the waiting list at the expense of another man's life.

In a moment of surprising humanity, Doug comes clean to Laura Mortetti about what he did. Even more surprisingly, she knows, telling him: "I'm f***ing you because I hate you."
