House Of The Dragon Episode Four Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs

6. Up - The Streets Of King's Landing

House Of The Dragon
HBO

The walk through the streets of King's Landing is a visual feast. The scene is vividly brought to life by a tapestry comprised of citizens from King's Landing from all walks of life. Viewers genuinely almost feel as though they are strolling along behind the disguised Daemon and Rhaenyra.

Fire eaters belch gorgeous incandescent rivers of flame, people copulate in the alleys without a care in the world and tightrope artists teeter precariously above the mass of people filling the streets like a river bursting its banks. Hell, there's even a stark reminder that we're in King's Landing as two thieves feverishly rummage through the pockets of a sleeping man who has enjoyed his night a little too much. Or is he dead? Viewers just don't know, it's King's Landing.

The walk through the city streets also sees House of the Dragon pay fond tribute to one of the more memorable minor scenes in Game of Thrones as Rhaenyra and Daemon encounter a troop of actors acting out a parody of the current political landscape, much the same as the one encountered by Arya during her travels in Braavos. Rhaenyra finds herself stepping into the youngest Stark daughter's shoes, as she and her uncle find themselves watching their own satirical depiction unfold before their eyes, like looking in some sort of bizarre mirror.

Game of Thrones was known for grounded yet stunningly beautiful visual displays that perfectly captured the essence of bustling, medieval cities and House of the Dragon ramps up this beloved characteristic in breathtaking fashion.
