House Of The Dragon Episode Four Review - 8 Ups & 2 Downs
3. Up - The White Worm
The King of the Narrow Sea featured another minor detail that viewers may have missed that hints at the expansion of a certain character's storyline. Otto Hightower is brought news of Rhaenyra and Daemon's scandalous antics by a young boy who saw the pair, reminiscent of one of Lord Varys' little birds. Speaking of Game of Thrones' Master of Whisperers...
The alias for Otto's source of information is revealed to be White Worm, a shadowy, nameless figure who instantly invokes memories of the eunuch known as the Spider. In a further mysterious twist, the same young boy who informed Varys is later briefly seen in the company of none other than Daemon's apparently occasional paramour Mysaria.
While this reveal will not come as a great shock to readers of Martin's canon, it's an electrifying wink at the camera for those getting their first taste of the Targaryen civil war through House of the Dragon and only serves to add further mysterious layers to Mysaria's air of intrigue. Every time the audience thinks they have her pinned down, she reveals a new facet to her character.
In the space of a few fleeting appearances across four episodes, Mysaria has gone from working in a pleasure house to a woman who is quite possibly the prime source of political dirt in the hornets nest that is King's Landing. It's difficult not to get excited about that kind of character; even more so when she begins to get a bit more screen time.
